While we strongly discourage an undue focus on controlling expenditure and the scarcity mentality that results, it does make sense to manage your money and spending sensibly.
Probably the most important thing you can do to improve your financial wellbeing is avoid all types of debt (other than when used carefully for acquiring appreciating assets, such as a mortgage to buy a house). Credit cards can be used to your advantage when they are paid off in full every month, but use of a credit card for a purchase should always be a matter of choice - you should only be buying something on a credit card if you have the money to pay for it but are choosing to use the credit card in order to keep the money earning interest for you in the meantime.
